Lower Face Lift|What You Should Know

A lower face lift is one of the many types of face lift procedures you can seek. This is the type of face lift appropriate for people with skin sagging problems and bands in the lower face and neck area. This area is a common problem area for a lot of people because of the soft and delicate skin that covers it. This area of the skin, once it starts losing its elasticity, can also easily lose its structure altogether. Thus, it is usually the first area that exhibits signs of sagging.

Some people also experience bigger problems with the lower face and neck area. Those who have a large amount of skin in this area are prone to having more prominent jowls and sagging caused by the excess skin once it loses its attachment to the face’s structure. In a lower face lift procedure, the excess skin is removed. As a result of the procedure, a lower face lift can improve the appearance of your face by smoothing out the lower jaw area and removing any skin that seems to hang loosely from your jaw. It can also remove the muscle bands in the neck area. People with excess fat in the neck can also benefit from a lower face lift but it is sometimes accompanied with a fat removal procedure.

This type of face lift, however, being surgical, naturally leaves a scar, which is usually in the area directly in front of the ear traveling to the back of the ear. After a lower face lift procedure, patients can expect swelling and mild bruising. The procedure, however, is not done on patients who smoke because there is a risk of causing skin death.

The lower face lift is one of the conventional types of face lift, which means it is an invasive process. Thus, it is not suitable for people with milder cases of facial aging, which can be remedied by less invasive procedures or treatments such as cosmetic fillers and mini face lifts. For those with prominent problems with the lower face area and those who are aged above thirty are excellent candidates for a lower face lift. Also, take note that a lower face lift procedure will not affect the cheeks, so if you also have sagging skin in your cheek area, it is better to get a standard face lift rather than a lower face lift.

A lower face lift is done by making a small incision in the lower face area. The incision extends from in front of the ear all the way to the other side of the area. Some lower face lift procedures are also done using endoscopes, similar to those used in an endoscopic face lift. These endoscopes or tiny cameras are inserted into the incisions. For lower face lifts combined with a neck lift, there will also be an incision under the chin. Once the incisions are made, the surgeon begins to separate the skin and the tissue to be granted access to the excess fat that needs to be removed and the muscles that need to be tightened. Similar procedures done in the past simply removed the excess fat, which often led to unnatural-looking skin. But now, a lower face lift also involves the restoration of the face’s natural underlying structure to create a more natural-looking rejuvenated look. After the procedure, the surgeon closes up the incisions.

Depending on the extent of procedure you wish to have, your surgeon can do either an S lift or an SMAS lift. The S lift is one wherein a small incision in the shape of an S is made in the area fronting the ear. The surgeon will use this incision to trim excess fat and tighten the skin’s structure. This is an ideal procedure for people between the ages of 30 and 50.

As for the SMAS facelift, it is conducted on the face’s SMAS layer, which refers to the layer under the skin where the muscles and tissues are found. This procedure focuses on tightening these areas to restore the skin’s youthful structure. The incision required for an SMAS facelift, which goes from the temples down to the ear’s loop, is larger than that made in an S facelift.

If you are considering non surgical procedures for face lift you can have a look at acupuncture face lift. There is another option too. There are certain face toning exercises that give you the desired face lift without going through the hassle of surgical procedures to enhance your look.
