Lip Surgery For Lip Sculpting
Lip surgery is a delicate process. Yet at times we do need them. This is part of basic anti-aging skin care process. There are cosmetic needs as well as psychological need for such a procedure. We are all very well aware of the cosmetic need. Young women opt for lip surgery to get permanent lip pigment or lip lines. The older women go for such surgery when they are confronted with thinning lips due to the normal aging process. The other problem that arises with aging is lip lines, lip wrinkles or what is more commonly known as smoker’s lips. Both the above problem has been discussed in my previous posts.
Lip Surgery For Lip Correction
Now let us come to the psychological need for lip surgery. Such a situation arises when a person is born with abnormality of lips like cleft lips. Accident and injuries also make it imperative to go for corrective lip surgery. This need is not purely psychological. This becomes a necessity for day to day normal functioning of the person. So lip surgery is a necessity in such a case.
Different Types Of Lip Surgery
- Lip surgery for permanent lip pigment.
- Lip surgery for permanent lip line.
- Lip surgery for reshaping Lips. This process involves both corrective steps as well lip enhancement. This also includes the process called” cheiloplasty”. Cheiloplasty refers to a surgical procedure by which excess lip tissue is removed to give aesthetic look to the lips. This process is the opposite of lip enhancement where a fuller lip is achieved surgically.
- Hypermobile lip surgery. In this process lip surgery is done to reduce the exposure of the gums so that the smile looks normal with minimum exposure of the gums. A hypermobile lip surgery is done on a person who has high lip line. A high lip line shows more of the gum when the person smiles. Cheiloplasty is also done to correct cleft lips. A piece of healthy tissue from nearby body area is used correct the cleft lips.
- Lip surgery for lip enhancement. This can be of the following types:
- Lip lifts use a small incision at the lip line, raising the lip to show more of the vermilion boarder. This can create a fuller red upper lip.
- Lip shortening employs small incisions placed at the base of the nose under the nostrils. This shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip and may also allow the lip to “roll out”, creating a more pout look.
- Lip thickening can be created with small incisions placed inside of the lip to roll out the lip. This thickens the lip and also creates more pouting. Healing may take a number of weeks and sometimes the sensation of the lips is altered, although the changes are temporary for most patients.
Post Lip Surgery| Recovery Time
Your recovery will depend on your lifestyle and which procedure you undergo. However, any swelling or bruising can last longer. If you are having surgical implants or grafts, your recovery can take up to two weeks after the surgery. There will be a moderate amount of swelling in the lip after your procedure. If you have had a surgical procedure, you may not be able to eat solid food for a few days. If you have had injection of tissue fillers or fat the swelling is less. The recovery time is generally less than a week. If you have had fat grafting you will have a moderate amount of drainage from the liposuction incisions. You will need to rest for the first two or three days, but most people are up and about shortly after surgery. The area of fat injection may swell for 1-2 weeks after surgery. Generally patients are advised to take off 7 days from work. If you have had tissue filler injection the swelling and bruising is less and only 3-4 days may be sufficient for recovery. Heavy lifting and exercising should be avoided in the first two weeks. Your body will tell you when you are ready to get back into your regular exercise routine.
