Lip Care and Oral Hygiene After Getting Lip Jewelry

Fashion is ever evolving. Most of the time, it never fails to impress and amaze people. The emergence and popularity of modern lip jewelry has gained so much attention that in a short span, many people (mostly women) are into it. To be able to use and flaunt lip jewelry, lip piercing is necessary. The most usual jewelries for lips are special earring-like accessories that are attached for added aesthetic appeal.

Your utmost concern should be to gain and keep hygiene for lip piercing and lip jewelry. In general, there is not much problem about getting lip piercings. If you decide to have your lip pierced or holed, expect to take full recovery of the wound for about six to 10 weeks. Infection rarely happens because as you all know, the mouth has its own effective ability and properties that naturally fight off bacteria and other harmful microorganisms.

After every piercing session, expect normal occurrences. The lip could swell. There would be scabbing, redness, tenderness, and in some occasions, bleeding. However, you should not in any way get worried. Such occurrences are just normal and natural; they do not usually herald infection. Instead, they indicate the natural healing process that is getting in full swing.

Now, how do you keep oral hygiene after getting lip piercing and wearing lip jewelry? Hours after the piercing is done, refrain from eating, drinking, or smoking. Wash hands properly before touching the piercing or the lip jewelry to avoid possible infection. Apply saline solution to the lip at least twice every day. Brushing should also be done frequently so that food particles that could have reached the wound would be removed. It is also not practical to get involved in oral sexual activities until the piercing and wound has completely healed.

Until the wound produced has completely healed, you would also be advised against doing several activities. Do not submerge or swim in pools, lakes, or other water bodies. Avoid sharing cups, plates, and other eating utensils. Do not touch the jewelry no matter what. If you want to have it removed, you should go back to the piercing shop and request assistance to take the lip jewelry out.
To maintain cleanliness of the lip jewelry, regularly clean the accessory. Use your fingers to completely and thoroughly rinse the item with warm or lukewarm water. When doing so, turn the lip jewelry up and down in a careful manner. It is a no-no to clean the accessory using peroxide or alcohol. Antibacterial soap and water is enough.

It is important to keep and observe a standard oral hygiene when you get lip jewelry and lip piercing. Be careful when touching or holding the accessory. It is important to keep hands sanitized and clean when doing so. This way, it is not advisable for you to let any other person touch your lip jewelry. Also make sure it would not get too much exposed or it would catch and accumulate dust and other impurities from the air.
