Before I start discussing about Cosmelan and its role in facial rejuvenation, I would first like to tell you why we need Cosmelan treatment in the first place.Cosmelan is a very popular skin rejuvenation product. It not only soothes out fine facial lines, it also removes the stubborn pigmentation marks of melasma.

Why Cosmelan

Our skin gradually loses its luster, smoothness and beauty due to many factors. Different blemishes like age spot, acne marks, skin pigmentation due to melasma and freckle marks spoil the natural beauty of the skin. Over exposure to the sun, hormonal imbalance, natural aging process, reaction to certain medication or cosmetics play havoc with our skin. So what is the best method to restore or at least repair some of the skin damage? There are many ways for facial skin rejuvenation. You can try different cosmetics or some over the counter as well as prescription medicines. You can also opt for some quite effective and rather costly face lift surgical procedures. But recently there has come out a procedure which really goes a long way in facial rejuvenation. It is known as Cosmelan.

What Is Cosmelan Treatment Procedure

This is a de-pigmentation procedure which not only removes all kind of facial blemishes; it also removes the fine lines and wrinkles quite substantially. The main activity of this treatment is aimed at blocking the production of melanin that causes hyper pigmentation. This is done by Cosmelan which aims at blocking the main enzyme tyrosinase that causes melanin. In fact the whole treatment with cosmelan is a multi pronged approach. In the initial stage you have to make a visit to the dermatologist’s office where Cosmelan1 is applied to your face. First your face will be cleaned and then the facial mask known as Cosmelan 1 will be applied to your face. According to the severity of your skin condition, the dermatologist will decide how long the mask should stay on your face. It is usually required to stay on the face for quite sometimes for effective result. The duration of time may vary from 4 to 8 hours. But you can return home with the mask on. After the prescribed time has elapsed you can wash off the mask and apply the Hydra Vital Factor K Cream that is part of the Cosmelan treatment.

Now starts the second part of the Cosmelan treatment. It is known as the home maintenance part of the treatment where you apply Cosmelan 2 cream. Initially you are required to apply this cream three times a day. Subsequently you can reduce the application to two times a day in the second week and once a day in the third week.

Ingredients of Cosmelan

While Cosmelan one contains Azelaic Acid, Kojic Acid, Phytic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Arbutine, Titanium Dioxide, Cosmelan 2 has Titanium Dioxide, Kojic Acid, Phytic Acid, Ascorbic Acid as the active ingredients. You will notice all the ingredients are known pigment reducing agents. The Hydra Vital Factor K cream contains Hydroviton, VItamin K,Vitamin E, Amniotic fluid, Glycerine, Silicone oil.

Cost of Cosmelan Procedure

The whole procedure of Cosmelan treatment costs around $300 to $600. It includes the facial mask at the dermatologist’s office as well as the subsequent maintenance cream.

Advantage of Cosmelan Treatment

It is suitable for all types of skin and can be done at any time of the year. This product is the result of extensive research and the feed back is quite impressive. Since the procedure can be initiated at the dermatologist’s office, it seems to be well endorsed by the medical community. It is effective for all kinds of melasma as well as acne. The result is immediate as you can notice the result in the first of the treatment.

Disadvantage of Cosmelan

The main disadvantage is the high cost of the treatment. No insurance cover is available as the treatment is cosmetic in nature. The next disadvantage is that you need to make a visit to the dermatologist’s office for the treatment. Another problem that creates nagging apprehension about the product is that one of the key ingredients of Cosmelan is titanium which is a known cancer causing agent.
