Valentine Day Special For The Singles

Till a few years back I would feel queasy around that particular day in February every year. You see I am single. Well I can add I am single by choice. I did not like the guys who liked me and the guys I cared for did not have time for me……..Like Brad Pitt. So come Valentine Day, I would feel as if I am the loneliest person on earth. I would watch married relatives going mushy during this special day………exchanging gifts, dining out and in general having a gala time oblivious of the singles on this earth. I tried to ignore the pain in my heart until I fell in love with my self.

Well it is a long story really. All of a sudden I realized I don’t need a guy or for that matter any one else to make me feel special and loved. I started enjoying my own company. I no longer felt lost or teary if left alone for considerable of time like on week ends. I no longer called up friends on phone just because my heart was breaking into pieces out of loneliness. I no longer kept myself immersed in work so that I won’t notice the passing years or those special occasions where a couple have special time together.

So how did it all happen? Well I read somewhere during my long research on the internet that if you do not enjoy your own company you will never be happy. Your happiness cannot be linked to what another person does or says. It may be your spouse, your brother, your boyfriend or even your girlfriend. The light bulb lit up in my head. I had my moment of awakening.

Hey, I can be happy on my own even if it is Valentine Day and I do not have a husband or boyfriend. I can make myself feel special. I can do fun things and pamper myself. Let me think what do I really enjoy? May be that sinfully delicious sweet is just right for this occasion. May be I deserve a break from my routine life and just laze around in bed and watch a movie. Ohh no…….. there is something more interesting. May be I will just sit on the patio and listen to the birds sing in the mellowed winter sunshine with a cup of coffee in my hand. The joy of not looking at the clock and hurry is simply a fabulous and perfect gift for me on this Valentine Day.
